Why Knomart Exams Can Fail You

If a certification is supposed to mean something, passing cannot be automatic.

That is why Knomart's exams are designed with a simple but important rule: you can fail.

The purpose is not to make members pay repeatedly. The purpose is to make a badge mean that the person who earned it actually demonstrated the required skill.

A Badge Should Mean Something

Knomart's model places significant weight on verified skill badges because merchants are ultimately looking for people who can do useful work.

A badge therefore should not mean that someone watched a course or clicked through a set of lessons.

It should provide evidence that the member passed an assessment designed to measure the relevant capability.

Paying $5 Does Not Buy a Badge

Exams cost $5 per attempt, including retakes. But the $5 purchases an attempt — not a guaranteed pass.

That distinction is important.

If paying the examination fee automatically produced a badge, the credential would quickly lose its meaning. The system would be rewarding payment rather than competence.

What Happens When You Fail?

Failure is part of the assessment process.

There is a 7-day cooling-off period between attempts, giving a member time to prepare rather than immediately paying again and repeating the same mistake.

Pass rates are also published for each badge. This gives members information about the assessment before they spend money attempting it.

Why Publish Pass Rates?

Transparency matters because an exam can be difficult for two very different reasons.

It might be testing a genuinely demanding skill. Or it might simply be badly written.

Knomart's model says that any badge sitting below roughly a 40% pass rate should be reviewed as a potentially badly written exam rather than automatically treated as a higher standard.

This creates an important boundary: the organisation should not benefit from making an exam unnecessarily difficult.

Courses Are Not the Gate

Members can learn through the course library, but completing a course is not a prerequisite for sitting an exam.

That matters because people arrive with different levels of experience.

A qualified professional should not be forced to sit through beginner material simply to prove a skill they already possess.

The Goal Is Credibility

A strong certification system should make a badge more useful to both sides.

For the member, it becomes evidence of capability.
